Rated 5 out of 5 by from A year with the HKTS 9 in College As a college student who likes to go out and fellow musician, I love music. I originally had two sets of Soundsticks, and considering their size and price, they performed admirably. Then last winter when looking for a nice portable speaker for a present, I noticed this speaker set on sale. Very on sale. At that point it decided it was time to dip my toes into the audiophile world, and i was not disappointed. i bought a decent intro 700W Sony receiver, and with these speakers wow was I impressed. The difference between a L/R system to surround sound is incredible. Loud music, movies and videogames all sounded great. When i'd have a party in my room and the music was especially loud the sub would distort a little bit, but for $160, this system can't be beat. I then bought a Klipsch R-125W sub and the sound was perfect. If you're looking to join the surround sound club this is a great place to start.

Hi there Could these 5.1 cinema speakers be installed in wall (recessed) rather than on surface? which model would be best suited for that plaese?

Asked by: ashk
Hi We're not sure if this would be possible with any of the satellite speakers we have in our catalogue. These are all speakers that would stand on their own, or mounted to a wall, but not "in" a wall. For in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, we would have to refer you to our PRO division. If you contact our Customer Support, we will be able to find the closest distributor for you.

I am considering purchasing the HKTS 9BQ, I have read a review on Tech 2 They claim Sub woofer is too slow for quality music. 'The satellites aren't full range so with the LFE crossover at 120mz drums and base line are muddled' -Comment please. Tks

Asked by: Bandit
Hi, There's no way to say that a subwoofer is "too slow" for quality music, or that because the satellite speakers are not full range ( which most satellite speakers that are part of a surround set aren't ) causes the drum and/or bass line to be muddled. This is very dependent on which receiver is used, which equalizing settings, and the quality of the audio stream itself. So, I would only suggest that, instead of following a review, you should order the HKTS 9 set, and test it for yourself. Audio quality is as good as one perceives it, what sounds perfect for one person, may not be the quality someone else is expecting. I would also like to inform you that, when you order products directly from Harman, you will have 30 days return right, so if you don't like the quality, you can contact our customer support, and we will arrange that you can send your product back, for a full refund.

I m already owning an AVR with power output rated 130 W per channel @ 8 Ohm. Would like to know hat would happen If I hook up the same with Harman kardon HKTS 9 speakers in terms of speaker response? thanks in advance.

Asked by: Pradeep Mukundan
The HKTS 9 can only handle up to 80W at 8 ohms.Your AVR is driving 130W at 8 ohms to the speaker which is too much and would result in distortion in high volumes it will also cause the speaker to blow in the long run since the speakers are running past the power that it can handle. I would advise getting another set of speaker for you AVR that can handle 130W-140W at 8 ohms.

I would like to know, the will HKTS 9 compatible with Sony STR-DN1080 receiver (165 @ 6 Ohm / 130 W @ 8 Ohm). Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Pradeep Mukundan
The HKTS 9 can only handle 80W of power compared to the 130W that the receiver drives so the Sony STR-DN1080 would not be compatible with the HKTS 9. You will need a receiver that is close but does not exceed 80W and is rated at 8 ohms for it to bring the full potential of the speakers.
