Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product mine doesn't cut off for no reason, or get hot at -35 db to -45 db. also it has an internal cooling fan that kicks on at higher volumes -10 to +10 db. (max volume) it pushes my jvc 15 (sp-7700) speakers (8 ohms) and a set of bose 701 all (6 ohms) at once. only reason it would cut out is if your ohms rating is wrong for the stereo. (6-8ohms) 2 or 4 ohms is too much resistance and 16 ohms is not enough and will not play as loud. i love this amp i am one to put it to the test playing it full blast for hours, and it holds up very well. yes it will cut out if you crank it up for 5 mins turn it down 30 seconds then turn it up back and forth. fan cuts off when you turn it down and if you turn it up right away it does not give enough cool down time before fan turns back on... so if you gonna do it loud keep it loud or leave it down for about 10 mins between sudden bursts. (thats with all audio systems though) older systems did not have self protect mode from heat. and i cant speak for the older hk model cause i don't have one i got the hk3770. which was an upgrade from my pioneer 1986 yeah sa-1270. electronics are all sensitive!!!! this is a bi amp capable amp for bi amp speakers or you can run 2 sets that are not bi amped

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good affordable high current amplifier! Excellent receiver! The only thing I consider important that need to be said is that you need to get the update from harman pardon european site version V000.17 it comes with V000.16 and it adds Balance controls in the tone control button of the remote controller It is in th download section at then end, unzip the file and you will find a pdf with all the instructions to install this very important upgrade http://eu.harmankardon.com/harman-kardon-product-support-detail-eu/hk-3770.html

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Class A/B amplifier? check! This beast has 40 amps of current to provide to speakers and I tested this with 6 ohm speakers it is 50 % efficient which is typically for a class A/B the previous model it was a wonder of 310 w with 77% efficiency, guess Harman is learning to do proper SMPS, good clean sound in evry in, including the coveted optical coaxial digital inputs for lossless audio, high quality performance

What is the power consumption on it when it is turned on and not only in standby? My "old" Harman Kardon HK990 uses 150w continuously when turned on without playing music and heats up the room nicely :) (not so nice in summer....)

Asked by: Rex Rudi
Power consumption: <0.5W (standby); 310W maximum It does not give an on, but idle spec. This spec is not available. However, this unit is very unlike the HK990. When on, but idle, it will draw very little current and will not heat up all that much.

Can I run the Recorder Output on the HK 3770 to a seperate stereo amplifier (AudioSource AMP100VS) used for whole house distribution so that both units will be playing the same source?

Asked by: Kyle4JBLHK
Yes. You can run the amplifier through the REC OUT of the HK 3770. Please note that the REC OUT, though, unlike a PRE OUT, is not affected by any tone and volume controls that will be done in the HK 3770 receiver.
