Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Earlier Onyx Studio Purchased an earlier Onyx Studio at a SPRINT store. As I walked in to the store(approx. 1200 sq ft), music was playing quite loud and I thought that the sound was coming from the store's sound system. The music filled the store with rich bass, not the thump, thump that you commonly hear from this type of speaker. What was even better was that it was on sale due to packaging damage! Should have purchased 2!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sounding speaker! I purchased this speaker looking for something that would sound great indoors, but also something that would sound great sitting outside around the fire. This speaker has it all! The sound quality is amazing with great highs and amazing lows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Sound Bought this a few weeks ago. I don't necessarily consider myself as an audiophile but this has great sound with enough oomph to fill a room with clear, rich sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great home bluetooth speaker I love the sound quality of the Onyx series. And the Studio 4 is true to that legacy. Deep base, but the highs and mids are still very crisp and clear. The Studio 4's now have stereo or party mode when paired with another Studio 4. The Studio 4’s really fill a room. The new app is pretty good too. It doesn’t have and EQ, but it controls the stereo and party mode nicely. The Battery life is better too. For in home use or on a patio they are great. But the downside is that they are a little larger than other Bluetooth speakers, not water resistant and charges with a larger power brick and not USB. So they are less travel friendly. With the new HK connect+ features and longer battery life the Studio 4 is a solid choice in the market of higher end home type portable Bluetooth speakers. If I were looking for a beach or camping speaker I'd probably look elsewhere. Or I needed just one speaker to serve all purposes, I'd probably look elsewhere. As an added note, the Studio 4 does have the 3.5mm input jack in the back. And they not backwards compatible with the Studio 3 or the Onyx Mini for wireless connectivity.

I have an onyx mini, studio 3, and the new studio 4. I can't figure out a way to pair up the onyx 4 to either my mini, or onyx 3.

Asked by: cptgame446
ONYX STUDIO 4 has a feature called HK Connect+ which can wirelessly connect more than 100 HK Connect+ enabled speakers. Currently, only the ONYX STUDIO 4 has HK Connect+ feature. On the other hand ONYX MINI, ONYX STUDIO 3 and GO+PLAY has HK Connect feature which is limited to 2 speakers connection only.

Is the Onyx Studio 4 louder than the Onyx Studio 3/2/1.. How do the models compare based on sound.. Bass/treble/highs/distortion/etc

Asked by: Chris21206
Technically, all of the ONYX STUDIO series have identical drivers and all are rated at 60 Watts. The main difference is ONYX STUDIO 3 and 4 will only output half of that rated wattage (half as loud) to save battery when running on battery.

What is the difference between connecting 2 Onyx Studio 4 in party mode and 2 Onyx Studio 4 in stereo mode? I have 2 Onyx Studio 4 units and I want true left/right stereo. I can't find the answer in your website specs or PDF spec sheet. Thanks!

Asked by: jarrod
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Party mode is feature wherein you can connect more than 2 ONYX STUDIO 4 to play audio in mono while stereo mode is limited to 2 ONYX STUDIO 4 only to play left/right stereo.

The battery life on my onyx is horrible and i have to keep it plugged in all the time when listening to it. Any solutions?

Asked by: Jlbakley33
The ONYX STUDIO 4 offers up to 8 hours of playtime. However, battery life would really depend on how the speaker is used, depending on music content (i.e Rap, R&b, rock, etc...) and volume level would certainly play a major role in the play time of the speaker. If the speaker is at 80-90% volume playing audio with a lot of bass, battery/play time would be shortened compared to the speaker playing mellow/slow music at 40-50% volume. Especially, if you are also using the HK CONNECT+ feature which uses another wireless radio of the ONYX STUDIO 4. If these thing did not work, please submit a request at www.harmankardon.com/support-contact.html and the Customer Service team will be more than happy to assist you.

When trying to pair my laptop to my HK Onyx studio 4 it requests a pass key. I do not know where to find this key. What is the key? I do not have to enter a pass key when pairing it with my iPhone.

Asked by: ThomasDNK
There's no pin code required for the ONYX STUDIO 4 when pairing it with any Bluetooth enabled audio source device. It would normally be the source that is requesting for the pin. Try entering "0000," "1111" or "1234" when your device asks for a PIN. These are some of the most common default Bluetooth PINs.

Just received onyx 4 and the volume is not loud at all. What can I do to fix this?

Asked by: lakerjermz
I am sorry to hear you are not satisfied with the speaker. Please try to pair the ONYX STUDIO 4 to a different source (smartphone/tablet/computer) to isolate the issue. Please be advised that if the ONYX STUDIO 4 is running on battery, it will only output half of that rated wattage (half as loud) to save battery. If this doesn't help, please perform a reset to try and fix the issue. - Press and hold the Phone and VOL + button simultaneously. - After 5 seconds, the unit powers Off, and is now reset. If the issue persists, please submit a case at www.harmankardon.com/support-contact.html and the Customer Service team will be more than happy to further assist you.

When I use my speaker remotely the power only last about 10 minutes with blue tooth before the speakers turns itself off. How can I get more life span from my speaker to keep the party going?

Asked by: KarlSD
It is possible that what you are experiencing is due to the ONYX STUDIO 4’s power saving feature. It is auto sensing and will turn off if no audio signal is detected for approximately 10 minutes. So, if you have the volume on the ONYX STUDIO 4 cranked up, and the volume on your source device set really low, it is very possible that the ONYX STUDIO 4 is not seeing enough of an audio signal to know to stay on. Please try turning the volume on the ONYX STUDIO 4 down a bit, and then crank up the volume on your source device to get to the level you desire. This will send a signal to the ONYX STUDIO 4 and it should stay on without any issues. If you need further assistance, please submit a case at www.harmankardon.com/support-contact.html and the Customer Service Team will be more than happy to assist you.
