High-performance audio/video receiver that boasts multiple wireless connectivity options, six HDMI inputs and 700 watts of beautiful sound. Power, performance and more connectivity options than you’ll ever need: Introducing the Harman Kardon® networked AVR 171S, the answer to any entertainment enthusiast’s hunger for performance and versatility. It’s got muscle: up to 700 watts (100 watts per channel). Its 7.2-channel A/V receiver is equipped with HARMAN TrueStream Bluetooth® connectivity, Apple AirPlay, vTuner™ Internet radio and Spotify Connect, giving you multiple options for streaming audio. And with six 3D-ready HDMI® 2.0 inputs, including one equipped for MHL to connect mobile devices, and two HDMI outputs, you’ll have more than enough ways to connect to everything you love – movies, HDTV, sports, MHL-equipped devices and the Roku Streaming Stick™ dongle. While the AVR 171’s connectivity alone makes it desirable, its sound really strikes a chord. It’s the first Harman Kardon AVR to feature our exclusive Natural Sound Processing (NSP), which creates a rich, enveloping surround-sound from any source – particularly with two-channel streaming content. And its EzSet/EQ™ III system automatically calibrates the AVR to your speakers and listening environment. The AVR 171S is light, too, thanks to HARMAN GreenEdge™ certification – delivering all the power you need with low environmental impact. For those who want it all, the AVR 171S can’t be matched.

OSD & remote need to be improvised and they need to compete with other brands by adding more features. Installation of stand was a lil tough.

What is the best way to connect the AVR171S to the SB 35 sound bar?

Asked by: Shmulik
Hi. Actually these two devices are not made to function together, and there is no logical way of connecting them. If you want to discuss the possibilities in detail, please contact Harman Helpdesk in Europe, or contact the distributor of our brands in Israel.

Hi, I have this AVR 171S and I have been trying to find the latest software version to download. I'm unable to find any software for this model on - https://www.harmankardon.com/software.html Thanks, Hadi

Asked by: Hadi
Hi Hadi, The website you are trying to find your AVR on only has software for US models of our products. The AVR171S is manufactured for your region ( which also includes EU and Asia ). For these regions, there is no download available through our website, and you will need to contact our Customer Support department to send you the correct files. I would like to add to this, that if your AVR171S works as intended, a firmware update, just to have the latest version, is not needed, this will not add features. If your AVR171S is not performing how it should, I would suggest you contact the seller of your AVR171S for technical assistance. Of course, you are always welcome to contact us on customer.support@harman.com

Hi please could you let me know what speakers I would need to purchase to upgrade this system to 7.1, specifically the white version. Also is it possible to extend the supplied speaker cables if they are not long enough. Thanks Michael

Hello - I'm looking for an AV receiver with a depth under 12 inches with an independent  zone 2 for a second set of speakers. It must support HDMI standard 2.0a.  Anything doing?

Asked by: adamadamadam
Hi, Thank you for the interest in our AVR products! The only AVR receiver we have, that i would recommend for this use, is our AVR 171S model. The depth is 300 mm, which is 0.48 cm under your requirement, so its rather close to the 12 inches. This receiver has HDMI 2.0 (not HDMI 2.0a) and zone 2 for additional speaker set. If you need any other information, please contact our helpdesk.

My front pair speakers are rated 4ohm 150w 200w max and others are 6ohm 150w 200w max. 7.1 system Will the 171s be able to drive these speakers correctly?  Thanks

Asked by: stuart
Hi Stuart, That is a great question and I will try my best to provide you with an efficient answer. First of all, the AVR171S is specified to drive speakers from 6 Ohms and up.  So your 4 Ohm speakers should only be used if you never play very loud for longer periods of time. This may damage the AVR, which we do not want! Next thing: AVR171S does not support connection of 4 speakers for stereo, like it would be if this were a stereo receiver with connection for two pairs of speakers.  If you want to use your 6 Ohm speakers in the front channels and the 4 Ohm speakers in the rear channels, it should work OK. The rear channels are not as active as the front channels, and the risk of damage to the AVR power amplifiers is smaller if you connect the 4 Ohm speakers to rear channel outputs.  One thing you can forget about in this setup is to use all 4 speakers in parallel as front speakers. It would damage the AVR for sure, resulting in a load of close to 2 Ohms. I hope i have answered your question.
